On the same day that they moved up four spots in the NAIA rankings, the Bethel College men’s soccer team validated that praise with a convincing 3-0 win over the University of Northwestern Ohio. On the morning of Wednesday, Sept. 19, the NAIA released its brand new men’s soccer coaches’ poll which had Bethel ranked no. 20. The four-spot jump came after two wins last weekend and an impressive 5-1-1 record overall. It was with this backdrop that the Pilots went into their home match against the Racers of Northwestern Ohio. It didn’t take very long for the Pilots to show why they deserved the high ranking. Five minutes into the match the Pilots scored a goal off the foot of sophomore midfielder Luke Davis. After that, the teams played even throughout the remainder of the first half. In fact, the score was still 1-0 deep into the second half. But the Pilots netted two goals in the final eight minutes of play (one from sophomore midfielder Tim Wilson and the other from sophomore midfielder Lucas Dos Santos) making the final score 3-0. The Pilots improved their record to 6-1-1 on the season, and earned coach Thiago Pinto his 50th career win as the men’s soccer coach at Bethel. The Pilots have now won three games in a row and will look to keep their momentum going when they begin conference play against Mount Vernon Nazarene on Saturday, Sept. 22.
