This weekend was an eventful one for the Bethel College men’s soccer team. On Saturday, Sept. 8, the Pilots were one goal away from defeating Hastings College on their home field in the 2012 Holiday Inn Express Classic held in Hastings, Nebraska. Hastings, the no.14 ranked team in the NAIA, jumped out to an early two-goal lead before halftime. But the Pilots were not about to quit. In the 80th minute, Luke Davis connected with Daniel Moyo for a clutch goal. In the end however, it was too little too late for the Pilots who lost a hard fought match 2-1. "We had so many opportunities to put the ball in the net in the second half but could only convert once," said Coach Thiago Pinto in an interview with bethelcollegepilots.com,” … I am very proud of our team for the way we played and the character we showed against a great team. There is a lot we can take away from this game and this game certainly will benefit us as we move on in our season." The loss came a day after the Pilots had defeated Concordia University 1-0 in the opening round of the tournament. The Pilots are 3-1-1 on the season, and their next match comes at home against Bellevue at 7:30 pm on Friday, Sept. 14.
