To celebrate its 65-year anniversary, Bethel College wants to include everyone – students, faculty and alumni both young and old. This was clearly displayed recently at the Bethel College Alumni Weekend on Oct. 26-27

On Friday Oct. 26, the festivities began with the alumni chapel: one dedicated to honoring outstanding alumni accomplishments. This year’s award winners were Dr. Jerry Thacker (Alumnus of the Year), Eric Stults (Professional Achievement) and Eduardo Ferreira (Outstanding Young Alum). The chapel service kicked off the weekend festivities and was an opportunity for students and alumni to interact. “It’s important for students to know that we honor alumni,” said Lois Pannabecker, the director of alumni services at Bethel College. Saturday began with three dedications of special landmarks on campus. The first was the Dr. Albert J. Beutler Athletic Hall of Fame in the Wiekamp Athletic Center. This was followed by the Dr. James A. Bennett Patio Dedication outside the Dining Commons along with the dedication of the new amphitheater which was funded by a combination of the class of 1962 and the class of 2012. The day continued with events such as class reunions, a cruise in with classic cars, and an alumni dinner where the alumni awards were officially presented along with a speech from President Steve Cramer. There was even a Kids’ Zone with inflatables and games for the children to use during the various events. “We tried to have events that younger alums could come to, older alums could come to and (everyone) in between,” said Pannabecker. “We’re trying to communicate that each era is important and they can learn from each other.” Overall, the weekend seemed to be a success and the event coordinators were pleased with the results. “The weekend had a really nice spirit,” said Taylor Davis, a sophomore at Bethel and a student worker for alumni services. “I was delighted (with) the way the weekend went,” said Pannabecker. There will be other alumni events as the year goes on including a Feb. 14 dinner for couples who both graduated from Bethel.
