The Bethel College women’s basketball team opened their season with a victory on Wednesday, Oct. 31, with a 71-47 victory over the University of Saint Francis. Both teams seemed to have the Halloween jitters in the first half as some sloppy shooting from the Lady Pilots had them staring at a 26-22 deficit heading into halftime. As a team the Lady Pilots shot 23 percent from the field including six percent from the three-point line. But they would come alive in the second half behind the likes of seniors Laura Johnson, Georgia Boisse and Kristen Hicks and they outscored the Saints 49-21 in the second half. Johnson led the way with 25 points and Hicks chipped in 11. Boisse dominated the rebounding column with 14 and helped Bethel outrebound Saint Francis 49-43. "To begin the season with a win is huge in setting the tone …” Bethel head coach Jody Martinez said in an interview with bethelcollegepilots.com,”…. We will continue to get better and improve on our mistakes as we get ready for our next game." That next game is away against Indiana University Northwest on Tuesday, Nov. 6 at 8:00.
