The Bethel Pilots dominated the IUSB Titan’s in their season opener Oct. 30 at the Wiekcamp Center. The Pilots started the game with a 7-0 run and never relinquished the lead beating IUSB handedly  74-49. The game started with a big block by forward Joe Welch who had 11 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. The first points of the season were made by Jordan Bowerman who finished with a team leading 16 points and 10 rebounds. Steve Ward dropped 13 points and was 3 for 4 from 3 point land making his three bombs all in the first half. Caleb Laidig brought down 7 boards while scoring 14 points. Laidig was also perfect from the free throw line going 10 for 10. Several fresh faces for the Pilots received significant playing time. Freshman guard Kyle Ritz started the game and finished with 2 points and 4 assists. Another freshman Taylor Kolbus played 19 minutes banking 9 points while bringing down 9 rebounds. The Pilots have lots of fresh blood this year with 9 freshmen and only 7 returning Pilots from last year. The next game for the Pilots is Nov. 2 at 7:00 PM as the Pilots travel to play Holy Cross College.
