Pilots drop another close MCC battle

 -  -  46

The men’s basketball team has found themselves in somewhat uncharted territory after dropping their first two conference games. The Pilots knew they would be tested right out of the gate in conference play; they came up three points short last week against the defending NAIA division II champions, Saint Francis and fell by a score of 84-76 to Grace last Wednesday on the road. The Pilots competed very hard throughout the entire game but were never able to take control. After trailing at halftime by a score of 46-40, Bethel showed signs of a possible comeback in the second half; however they could not come up with the big shots. As a team the Pilots were 1-11 from the three point line, while Grace collected nine threes in 20 attempts. Nevertheless, the team continued to reveal their depth as they put up 29 points off the bench and out-rebounded the Lancers 30-25. Caleb Laideg led the way for the Pilots as he has done all season with 16 points and gathered eight rebounds. Ryan Benner also stepped for Bethel, scoring 15 points, while Joe Welch chipped 12 points and four rebounds. The Pilots will next host conference foe Indiana Wesleyan this Saturday at 3:00 p.m. This will be another key game for Bethel as the Wildcats are already 2-0 in MCC play.
