Phil says goodbye to winter!

 -  -  35

The nation’s most famous groundhog defied the recent blizzard forecasts with one of his own: spring is just around the corner! Known as Punxsutawney Phil by many adoring fans, this furry little fellow typically heralds more winter. According to legend, if the groundhog sees his shadow it means six more months of winter, but if he doesn’t then spring will come early. Since the first official Groundhog Day on Feb. 2, 1887 Phil has seen his shadow one hundred times and hasn’t seen it fifteen times (the other years are unaccounted for). It should be noted that his predictions are about 39% accurate which is understandable for anyone who’s just woken up from a four-month hibernation. Gobbler’s Knob in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania is the location of the most popular Groundhog Day ceremony with crowds up to 40,000 in attendance. Get ready for spring because Phil says it’s coming early!
