Lady Pi­lots pro­vide strong show­ing at ONU In­vi­ta­tional

The wom­en’s soft­ball team par­tic­i­pated in the Olivet Nazarene In­vi­ta­tional last week­end held in Bour­bon­nais, Illi­nois, where the team took three vic­to­ries and suf­fered one loss. On Fri­day, the team de­feated Robert Mor­ris Uni­ver­sity by a score of 2-0 and McK­endree Uni­ver­sity by a score of 6-3. The Lady Pi­lots strug­gled early on Sat­ur­day and found them­selves trail­ing Saint Xavier late in the ball game 4-0 be­fore they came back to claim the 8-4 tri­umph. Fol­low­ing the mo­men­tous come from be­hind win, Bethel sur­ren­dered their only loss of the week­end to the host Olivet Nazarene by a score of 7-1.

The Pilots pitched extremely well on Friday. Katie Boocher captured yet another strong victory on the mound with over four innings of shutout baseball. In game two, Giana Zimmerman gave up two runs in four innings to defeat McKendree. Brookelyn Smith led the Lady Pilots with a solo home run against Robert Morris. On Saturday Ali Holsclaw was the beneficiary of the late run support as she got the win pitching three innings in relief. The only loss on the invitational went to Boocher in game four, as she went five innings giving up four runs. Brookelyn Smith led the Lady Pilots in the nail biter against Saint Xavier with a walk off grand slam and her second home run of the weekend. The Lady Pilots return home on Tuesday where they will face their undefeated conference foe, Huntington University. The first game of the double header is set to begin at 3:00 p.m.
