This Saturday students will participate in the annual Labor for Your Neighbor event. On Saturday, April 17, the office of service learning will host the fourth annual Labor for Your Neighbor event, beginning at 9 a.m. The work ends at noon, with a cookout immediately after. “Early in the week we’re focused on getting the word out,” said Dean Compton, who works in the office of service learning. Students will volunteer at 25 different homes within a quarter-mile of Bethel. Volunteers will rake leaves, paint, clean out garages or do whatever else residents in the community need. Student leaders were chosen for the event based upon past experience with serving or due to an outstanding reputation as a leader. Though the 12 leadership positions are filled, more volunteers are still needed. “We’d like to see 60-70,” said Compton. “We’ve always had good turnouts.”
