Students gather for annual Christmas party

Students gathered Thursday night, Dec. 12 in Bridges Hall, formerly known as the Lodge, for a campus-wide Christmas party. Refreshments, hot chocolate, and sleigh rides were provided for all who attended. The evening included a visit from Bethel College’s president, Dr. Gregg Chenoweth, as “Santa Claus.” Students said they enjoyed the opportunity to take a break and get together with their peers. “It’s a great way to bring in the Christmas season,” said freshman Jonathan Brandt. “It helps to raise spirits before finals, and it’s also great to see the president taking involvement. It demonstrates a holistic community involvement at Bethel.” The Christmas party is an annual event, but is a fairly new tradition, according to Zach Gillis. Gillis graduated from Bethel College in 2013 and is currently serving as the assistant resident director for perimeter housing and Eastwood Hall as well as the Campus Coordinator for the Center for Intercultural Development. “Perimeter Housing and the Lodge started partnering with StuCo a few years ago,” said Gillis. “This is my second time helping with it, so I’m really excited.” Bridges Hall was decorated for the occasion. “We partner with StuCo, Campus Activities, and Resident Life, so we had a lot of help decorating,” said Bridges Hall Resident Director Sara Loucy-Swartz. “The support is really great.”
