Bethel College Basketball Coach Mike Lightfoot announced his plans to retire during a news conference at Bethel on Thursday, Jan 5. Lightfoot has coached 30 years at Bethel and says he will retire after the 2016-2017 season. During his time at Bethel Lightfoot has won 777 games, sixth most among NAIA coaches all time and the highest total among active coaches. His teams have won three NAIA national championships and four NCCAA national championships. Lightfoot's teams have also won 18 Crossroads League championships and in his 30 years he has had 28 winning seasons. During the news conference Athletic Director Tom Visker announced that Lightfoot's son and current assistant, Ryne Lightfoot, will take over as the new head coach next season.
