Track & Field Opens Season at Notre Dame

NOTRE DAME, IND.-- Bethel’s Track and Field team traveled to Notre Dame to compete in the Blue & Gold invitational. This invitational was especially helpful for the team to get the competitive cobwebs off. The Pilots made out well, pulling in 20 top five finishes and three NAIA standards.  

The invitational took place in Notre Dame’s Loftus Sports Center and hosted six competitive teams. The teams were Notre Dame, Bethel, Butler, DePaul, Valparaiso and Detroit Mercy. The three competitors who reached NAIA standards were: Zach Harrah in Men’s Pole Vault at 4.85mm, Bailey Lang in Men’s Weight Throw at 16.40m and Queen Walker in Women’s Weight Throw at 15.93m.  

The Women’s Track Team had 4 individuals procure a top five spot in their event: Kayla Kunkel achieved 5th place in Long Jump, Jessica Tuttle managed to place 2nd in High Jump, Codi Scogin vaulted her way into 3rd place for Pole Vault and Queen Walker achieved both 5th place in Weight Throw and 4th in Shot Put.   The Men’s team stole the show with 16 individuals placing in the top five finishes in their events. Jason Foster achieved 4th place in High Jump, Jonah Lester reached new heights with 1st place in High Jump and 2nd place in Long Jump and Matt McCown secured 3rd place in High Jump.   Zach Harrah was able to pull off a 2nd place finish Pole Vault, while Ryan Trick placed 4th in Pole Vault.   Bailey Lang won 2nd place in Weight Throw and Ben Wilt was hot on his heels with 3rd place in Weight Throw. Richard Parker threw Shot Put for 5th place.  Jack Fisher ran his way into 3rd place in the 600m, followed closely by Jakob Maxwell in 5th place, Jamique Mitchell was able to place 2nd in 60m and 2nd in 200m, Ben Zurcher pulled off 5th place in the 200m. Last but not least, John Ferrell, Sebastian Alonso, Carson Bolinger, and Ian Smith combined their efforts for 5th place in the 4x400m Relay.   The Bethel Pilots try their hand this coming weekend, December 8, at Indiana Tech in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Be sure to cheer them on and congratulate them on their massive achievements!
