With the end of the indoor track season in sight, both teams have been continuing to push and finish strong. Last week both teams traveled to DePauw University, where seven members of the women’s team hit the NAIA qualification mark. In addition, JW Maierle was named the men’s indoor field athlete of the week. As a team, the women finished in second place out of 13 teams. Nichole Arnold led the Lady Pilots, qualifying for NAIA in both the shot put and the weigh throw. Katie Buetler also contributed two NAIA qualifications as well, consisting of the long jump and 55m dash. Other NAIA qualifiers on the day included Kaila Stevens in the 400m dash, Sam Etter in the 55m hurdles, and the 4X400m relay team of Beenne Capre, Dominique Dvojacki, Avante Newsome Gunn, and Irene Kangai. Maierle led the men’s team as he has all season with a first place finish in the long jump. Jordan Heim also chipped in a second place finish for the Pilots in the 400m dash. Next weekend, both Pilot track teams will travel to Taylor to compete in the last regular season meet of the year. Following that event, NCCAA Indoor Nationals are set to be held on February 19, while NAIA Indoor Nationals will take place on March 3.
