Pilots Compete in NCCAA Championships

CEDARVILLE – On Friday, Feb. 10, the Pilots’ track and field team traveled to OH, for NCCAA indoor championships. This conference lasted Friday and Saturday, and the lady Pilots tied for third place overall (of eighteen) with 77 points, while the male Pilots finished eighth place overall (of eighteen) with 40.50 points.  

Highlights from day one featured Brianna Hooton, Natalie Gonzalez, Kilynn Guiler and Vladlena Klymova, who did a great job securing second place in the 4x200-meter relay with a time of 1:48.42. Elisha Fleming finished second overall in the men's heptathlon with a final mark of 4221 and placed in the top three for six of his seven events.  

Highlights from the second day again featured Brianna Hooton, who secured first place in the women’s 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.58. Vladlena Klymova, Cailyn Pentecost, Riley Hershberger and Brianna Hooton scored third place in the women’s 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:10.03. Madison Kauffman earned third place in the women’s weight throw with a distance of 15.68 meters. Brennen Bargesser secured second place in the men’s 200-meter dash with a time of 22.58. 

The season is not yet over for these teams; there are still a few more meets on the docket. The next meet will be held at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion Ind. Feb. 17-18, and the NAIA Championship will take place in the beginning of March at South Dakota State University. That championship will conclude the indoor track season, and the outdoor track season will start at the end of March.
