Pilot basketball teams claim three All-Conference awards

Both the 2010-2011 men’s and women’s basketball teams were led by extraordinary senior leaders who have accomplished many great things at Bethel. Between the two teams, the Pilots were able to gather three all-conference awards for their play throughout the MCC regular season.

On the men’s side, Caleb Laidig was named to the third all-conference team. Laidig has led the team both vocally and with his play throughout the season. He has contributed in nearly all aspects of the game and has been their go-to player all season. Laidig struggled with a stress fracture late in the season, which limited his mobility and practice time; nevertheless, he did not miss a game and fought through the pain by continuing to find ways to score and rebound. Laidig has been one of the hardest workers on the team during his four years at Bethel and it is no surprise that he was also named to the all-defensive team. On the women’s side, Heather Seyfred and Mandy Yoder were given all-conference awards as well. After both players transferred to Bethel after their sophomore years, both have been tremendous lifts to the Lady Pilot basketball program and have made their marks in the all-time Bethel women’s basketball scoring record books. Seyfred is now the seventh all-time scorer in Bethel women’s history, while Yoder is right behind her at eighth. In addition, each had great seasons this year and were once again standouts in the MCC conference. Seyfred was named to the first all-conference team, while Yoder was named to the second all-conference team. Yoder also led the conference in assists for the second straight season and was third in the nation with 170 assists. The Pilots will dearly miss these three seniors as they look to new leadership next season.
