The Pilot men’s basketball team ended their season Wednesday night with a tough fight against the top-seeded Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats. Bethel continued to battle as they have all season; nevertheless, Indiana Wesleyan was able to down the Pilots for the third time this season 86-80. Although the Wildcats have dominated within the MCC this year they have struggled to put away the Pilots easily. In the three contests between these two opponents every game has been decided by 10 points or less. The Pilots came out very strong on the road and it was a close contest throughout the entire first half as IWU only led by one at the break. However, it was a different story in the second half. With 12 minutes left in the game, the Wildcats claimed a 19 point lead. Nonetheless, the Pilots continued to reveal that they would not go down without a fight as they switched to their four guard lineup and closed the gap to a three with under four minutes to go. The Wildcats then hit crucial shots down the stretch and the Pilots were unable to complete their comeback. Caleb Laideg had an outstanding game as he significantly led the Pilots with 28 points, eight rebounds, and four assists. Taylor Kolbus had a good night as he chipped in 12, and Landon Booker gave the Pilots a lift with 10 points off the bench. The Pilots finish the season with an overall record of 14-17.
