Track teams turn in several top performances at Taylor

The men’s and women’s track teams traveled to Taylor on Feb. 4, where they competed in their fourth meet of the indoor season. The two teams combined to earn five first place finishes and three NAIA qualifications. The men’s team was led by Calen Boyd who has already made an early case as the team’s MVP. and the triple jump. His triple jump distance of 14.46m gave him another NAIA qualification. The other NAIA qualifier on the men’s side was Robbie Rose in the shot put, who threw for a distance of 15.52m. Other top performances on the afternoon consisted of two relay teams. The 4X800 team of Robby Gingerich, Tim Sipe, Kyle Beutler, and Christian Clark finished in second place, while the 4X200 team of Travis Patterson, Calvin Lewis, Talal Maree, and Mike Childs finished in third. Harrison Fausey led the distance crew with a fourth place finish in the 5k. The women’s side had an NAIA qualifier as well. Arielle Byl met NAIA qualifications in the high jump with a jump of 1.62m. Although that was the only qualifier on the women’s side, there were a number of first place finishers. The 4X400 team of Byl, Rebecca Wetzig, Irene Kangai, and Sam Etter earned a first place performance as well as the 4X800 team of Keri Lencke, Christina Adams, Dominique Dvojacki, and Lauren Dudley. Cinnamin Green earned second place in the shot put while Kate Carr placed second in the pole vault competition. The teams will next compete in the DePauw University Invitational on Feb. 11 held in Greencastle, Indiana.
