Women’s Golf team wins spring invite opener, Layman finishes second

The Lady Pilot golf team opened up their spring campaign with a commanding first place finish at the Capital University Purple and White Invitational. Overall, the team shot 34 strokes better than the second place finishing team, Otterbein College. Jessica Layman and Katie Powell got things going early on day one as they shot a 78 and 79 respectively. On the following, day Layman shaved three strokes to shoot a 75, while Melanie Day contributed a 76. Layman’s combined 153 earned her an overall second place finish behind Mount Union College’s Mary Snode. In addition, Day, Powell, and Sarah Henderson finished in 3rd through 5th respectively. The team will have three more competitions including their own Bethel College Invitational on April 13 before traveling to Greeneville, Tennessee to participate in the NAIA National Championship.
