Bethel junior Natalie Weiss competed in the National Grocer's Association Best Bagger Championship in Las Vegas on Tuesday, Feb. 11, but she did not reach the final round. Weiss was the Indiana champion and represented the state in the national competition. She has worked at Martin's Supermarket in Granger since 2009, which is when she first got involved in the grocery bagging competition. This year she became her store champion and then went on to beat 21 other Martin's store bagging champs from Indiana and Michigan. She then represented Martin's in the state championship and won that. The contest in Las Vegas featured a series of preliminary rounds, resulting in a final round of five baggers. Everyone who reached the finals received a cash prize, but the eventual winner received $10,000 and a chance to appear on the David Letterman show. This year's winner was Andrew Hadlock of Utah. The Beacon's Aaron Charles wrote this story on Natalie Weiss earlier this week before the national competition.
