MADISON– KCACTF is the Kennedy Center American Collegiate Theatre Festival. Bethel College is a part of Region 3 which includes two and four-year colleges from Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin and parts of Ohio. Every year, the Theatre Department showcases its students’ abilities for representatives from various colleges throughout the region.
This year, the festival occurred in Madison, WI. Bethel faculty member Deb Swerman assessed and responded to the Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship Auditions while Don Hunter assessed and responded to the set-up and tear-down practices of the invited plays. Bethel faculty member Johan Godwalt ran and organized the Stage Management Intensive.
Several Bethel College students placed highly during competitions at the festival. Macy Young, sophomore, was the scenic designer for the first-place team in the Design Storm competition. Steven White, junior, and Gabrylle Perkins, sophomore, placed in the top sixteen out of ninety-two students for the Musical Theatre Intensive. Erin Scott, junior, placed in the top thirteen out of forty students for the Stage Management Intensive. Finally, Sidney Sprunger, junior, and Grace Spencer, senior, were chosen to stage manage two of the new plays that were showcased at the festival.
Additionally, Kayla Rundquist, senior, was one of the first students afforded the opportunity to audition for post-graduation work with professional theatre companies from the states that comprise KCACTF region 3.
