After finishing with a 5-3 record in the conference and an overall record of 8-3, the Lady Pilots tennis team has earned a four seed in the MCC tournament, which will take place this Thursday at Indiana Wesleyan. Bethel will take on the Grace Lancers who finished fifth in the conference with a 4-4 conference record. The Pilots did overcome the Lancers earlier in the season by a tight 5-4 decision; nevertheless, the two teams are very even as four of the singles matches went three sets and the two doubles match was decided by a tiebreak. The team has a great balance of talented newcomers as well as veterans. One of the leaders on the team this year is Senior Carrie Edison. Edison plays two singles as well as two doubles and has been very satisfied with the effort the team has given throughout the season. “I have been so excited about this team from day one,” said Edison. “We mesh so well together, and are continually building each other up.” Edison also believes that the team has done a great job of allowing the freshmen to feel a part of the team and have encouraged each other all year long. “The girls have created a chemistry that other teams would die for,” Edison stated. The Pilots will have a difficult road to winning the MCC tournament as it will only get tougher after they take on Grace. Indiana Wesleyan has attained a perfect conference record, while Taylor and Marian have a combined three losses. Nevertheless, Edison believes that this team has the potential to be a very dangerous tournament team. “I think we can continually surprise other teams, our coaches, and even ourselves,” Edison said.
