Despite a low scoring battle, the men’s basketball team was able to gather their second win of the season Tuesday night when they traveled across town to take on the Holy Cross Saints. The young Pilots were able to pull out a hard fought 63-52 victory, which improves them to 2-0 on the season. Bethel was able to strike first and pull ahead 6-0 before the Saints were able to gather themselves with a basket. At halftime, the Pilots led by a tight score of 31-29; nevertheless, they were able to put together an impressive second half, outscoring the Saints 37-28. Both seniors were able to make significant contributions, which kept the Pilots one step ahead of the Saints. Caleb Laideg spent 36 minutes on the court, earning 14 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists. Meanwhile Joey Welch also had a strong night putting up 12 points and gathering eight rebounds. Sophomore Jordan Bowerman also chipped in 11 points and seven rebounds. Bethel was also led by junior guard, Stephen Ward, who came up with 10 points off the bench. The Pilots will now travel to Rio Grande, Ohio, where they will compete in the Giovanni’s Tip-Off Classic starting on Friday, November 5. Their first game will be played against Pikeville College (KY) at 4:00 p.m.
