Lady Pilots improve to 6-0 in MCC play

 -  -  34

The Lady Pilots remain unbeaten in the MCC after a late home victory against the Marian Knights. The Knights gave Bethel all they could handle but were unable to keep up down the stretch as they eventually fell 81-72. It was yet another high scoring affair which led to an obvious advantage for the Lady Pilots and their sharp shooter Laura Johnson. As been the trend lately, Bethel fell behind early and was unable to jump on the Knights in the early minutes. Nevertheless, they would dig themselves out of the hole with a 15-4 run which led to a 40-38 halftime lead. The lead in the second half would reach 17 at one point but quickly dwindled to five with 43 seconds remaining. In the end, clutch free throw shooting was key in bailing out the Lady Pilots for their sixth MCC win. Johnson continued to do impressive work on the offensive side of the ball with 28 points, while Kristin Hicks finished with 13. In addition, point guard Chelsea Ward chipped in 12 points off the bench. Eight of these points came during a three minute span late in the second half. The Lady Pilots will have an important matchup this Tuesday Jan. 10 as they take on the Grace Lancers. It will be essential for Bethel to have a strong showing at home before they host Indiana Wesleyan on the following Saturday. The Lady Wildcats are currently ranked 1stin NAIA Div. II.
