New members to be inducted into hall of fame

The Bethel College Hall of Fame has announced the class of 2010 inductees to be recognized Sept. 12 in the Wiekamp Lobby. The three standouts being inducted include Eric Brand, representing men’s basketball, April (Allison) Russell, representing softball, and AJ Whitehead, representing women’s basketball. Eric Brand was a 2002 graduate who left an impressive mark on Bethel College. Brand was one of the best center’s to play Bethel basketball and collected quite a few rewards during his college tenure. He was a three time NCCAA All-American and a first team NAIA All-American in 2000. He has had his number 55 jersey retired a few years back and remains the only athlete in Bethel College history to play in four championships. Brand is currently an assistant coach at Texas State University. April (Allison) Russell graduated in 2001 and was the first softball player in Bethel history to be named an NAIA first team All-American. She was also a four time NCCAA All-American as well as a Ron Paulsen Award recipient in 2000. She set the single season batting average mark at .458 and had her number 15 softball uniform retired. Russell is currently married to Chris Russell and has two children. AJ Whitehead graduated in 2001 and was a member of the first women’s basketball team to play in the NAIA tournament. She was also a three time NCCAA All-American as well as the 2000 NCCAA Tournament Most Valuable Player. Whitehead was also MCC Player of the Year in 2001. She left her mark by finishing first in career field goal percentage of 50.1 %. She is currently the women’s basketball Director of Operations at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.
