The Bethel College athletic department was recently recognized as a Five Star Institution by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). This award has been driven by NAIA’s Champion’s of Character campaign which evaluates schools according to five standards including integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership. These core values are measured by the NAIA and are graded on a scorecard evaluating athletes, coaches, and administrators. In order to become a Five Star Institution, schools must score 60 points or higher. In the year 2009-2010, the Pilot athletic program scored an impressive 68 points, which is highest in the Mid-Central College Conference (MCC). In addition, the MCC was also named to the list due to 60% of its members meeting the mark. “We are very proud of receiving the Five Star Award for our achievements with the NAIA Champions of Character,” stated Athletic Director Mark Lantz. “We take the five core values of this program very serious and we are looking for ways to score even better next year.”
