The women’s basketball team competed in the first round of the MCC Tournament last Tuesday as they traveled to Huntington University. Although the fifth seeded Pilots put up a hard fight, they could not keep up with the offense of the fourth seeded Forresters. Huntington eventually downed Bethel by a score of 65-53. Although the Lady Pilots’ three standout seniors were able to put up 35 of Bethel’s 53 points, it was not enough to keep up with Huntington, who had four of their five starters put up double digit scoring. Overall, it was a tough night for the Lady Pilots who were unable to get in any kind of rhythm. They shot under 30% from the field and under 60% from the charity stripe. Although they kept hanging around and threatened to take control, the Forresters eventually pulled away under three minutes to go. Mandy Yoder had another great game for the Pilots and continued to lead the team with not only 13 points, but five assists as well. Heather Seyfred had a tough night as she went 3-15 from the three point line, but still claimed 13 points. Bekah Basinger also chipped in nine points. In addition, Sarah Clark came off the bench, giving the Lady Pilots a huge spark. She collected 11 points on the night and four rebounds. This now gives the Lady Pilots an overall record of 17-14. They will now await and possibly compete in the NCCAA Tournament due to their above .500 record.
