Women’s golf blasts away competition, wins by 50 strokes

 -  -  40

Not only did the women’s golf team win the first tournament of the year earlier this week at the University of Saint Francis Invitational, but they were an impressive 50 strokes ahead of the runner-up. In addition, the team tied the current 36 hole team record and blasted away the rest of the field by claiming the top five spots individually. Jessica Layman was very strong for the Lady Pilots as she shot a 76 on day one and turned it around with an impressive 71 on day two. Melanie Day was right behind her as she shot a 73-78 and Sarah Henderson shot an 82-73. Erin DeVries took fourth overall on the tournament while Katie Powell claimed fifth. The team feels very confident as they move into the heart of the season as every player in the top five is able to give a spark to the team on a given day. The team will next compete in the Youngstown State Invitational on September 5-6. This event will be held at Columbiana, Ohio.
