Volleyball team captures a 3-1 win over the Cougars in new arena

Last Wednesday was a very significant night for the Lady Pilot volleyball team as they hosted their first ever match-up in the new Goodman Volleyball Arena. Bethel faced off against Mount Olive Nazarene, who was just recently added to the MCC. The Lady Pilots got off to a quick start and only gave up one set as they downed the Cougars 3-1 with set scores of 25-15, 19-25, 26-24, and 25-14. Prior to the game the team promoted the game by handing out 50 Bethel volleyball t-shirts to the first 50 students. However, it did not need a lot of advertising as many students, faculty, family, and area residents were already in attendance anxiously awaiting the first game in a new arena. Despite slipping up in the second set, the team looked very confident and captured a strong opening win to begin the MCC regular season. Coach Julia Reininga felt fortunate to get out of the game with a four set win but knows that the team has a lot of work ahead of them in order to knock off the top teams in the conference. Junior Lindsay Marks was a huge contributor for Bethel on the night as she chipped in 45 assists and 14 digs. Emily Henry continued to be a strong leader on the court as well as she collected 20 kills on the night. The team will be back in the Goodman Volleyball Arena this Friday night as they host Marian University. Play is set to begin at 7 p.m.
