Men’s soccer team captures a must win.

The men’s soccer team went to battle last Saturday Oct. 15 against their conference foes Indiana Wesleyan. Despite a late rally by the Wildcats, the Pilots were able to hold on to a 3-2 victory due to a game ending save by Cody Troyer. Bernardo Sant’Anna continued to reveal his worth to Bethel with an early goal to put the Pilots up 1-0. However, Sant’Anna was not done there as he would provide Ryan Needs with an impressive assist at the 25:36 mark in the first half, putting the Wildcats in a hole. Eduardo Fernandez also scored off of a corner kick from Rafael Borges late in the first half to claim a demanding 3-0 lead. Nevertheless, the Wildcats came storming back and even cut the lead to two goals with a goal just before the half ended. Although the Pilot defense stood strong for the better part of the second half, they surrendered another goal with 20 minutes of play remaining. Bethel then played with poise the rest of the way and were able to sneak away with a 3-2 win as Cody Troyer prevented a desperate attempt to tie the game as time expired.

By fighting off the Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats, the Pilots now have a firm grasp on second in the MCC and are looking from help from first place Taylor to claim the number one tournament seed. Taylor is currently 6-0-1, while Bethel is 6-0. Therefore, if Taylor loses and Bethel wins out, Bethel will claim another consecutive regular season MCC title.
