The Lady Pilot basketball team went 2-0 last weekend as they traveled to Indiana Wesleyan University to compete in the WHAC/MCC Challenge. On Friday Nov. 18, Bethel faced a tough Cornerstone University team but was able to close out a solid 56-52 triumph. The next day the Lady Pilots faced Madonna University and did not waste much time pulling away as they eventually won 82-53. On the first night, the Lady Pilots found themselves in a sloppy first half battle. Both teams struggled with turnovers and were unsuccessful from the field. As a result, Bethel went into the half up just 26-18. From there it did not get much better in the second half; however, they eventually closed out a four point victory. Overall, Bethel shot 23-51 from the field and was 5-19 from beyond the arc. Kristin Hicks was an impact player for the Lady Pilots as she was the only player to put up double digit scoring for Bethel with 15 points. Georgia Boisse chipped in with eight points and four assists. Game two against Madonna was much smoother for the Lady Pilots. They were able to step up the pace again and put up a total of 82 points. The Pilots pulled away early and eventually led at halftime by a score of 49-31. From there, they did not look back and outscored Madonna by 11 points in the second half. Laura Johnson stepped it up once again for the Lady Pilots, collecting a total of 25 points. Hicks was also a big contributor with 12 points, while Ashlee Ort chipped in 13 off the bench. Bethel is now 7-1 on the season and will host Spring Arbor this Tues. November 22 to open up MCC play. Tip-off for that game is scheduled for 7 p.m.
