Spring Arbor eliminates men’s soccer team in semis 2-1

 -  -  50

The men’s soccer team’s run came to an end last Saturday Nov. 5, as they were ousted by the Cougars from Spring Arbor. The Pilots finished the season with an overall record of 12-6, claimed second place in the MCC regular season, and reached the Semi-finals before dropping a tough 2-1 loss. Despite being without Bernardo Sant’Anna due to health reasons, the Pilots were able to get on the board quickly due to a Timothy Wilson goal at the 30:45 mark in the first half. Cody Troyer and the Bethel defense stepped up their games to hold the lead but gave up a late second half free-kick which made the halftime score 1-1. Then with 20 minutes to play the Cougars were able to deflect another free-kick and send it to the back of the net. The Pilots came back relentlessly looking to even the game as they outscored the Cougars 16-2 on shot attempts in the second half. However, the Spring Arbor defense was able to hold off all attempts and claim the 2-1 victory sending them into the MCC tournament finals. Although this game was not the way the Pilots envisioned ending the season, they will now await to see if they get a bid in the NCCAA Regional Tournament.
