Bethel Continues Scripture 66 Tradition

MISHAWAKA- Bethel's annual Scripture 66 event took place Nov. 4-7 in the Shiloh Prayer Chapel. Students gathered and read through the whole Bible during this time.

Spiritual Life Intern Jacob Falk helped plan the event.

“We typically have about 100 or so participate,” Falk said. “Whether that’s a friend bringing them along for their time slot or people signing up.”

Scripture 66 has been happening at Bethel for several years; however, it was not always held in Shiloh.

“Talking with Tom Carpenter and Shawn Holtgren, they remember doing Scripture 66 in their college years,” Falk said. “In the gazebo in the middle of campus, they would line it with tarps and Scripture 66 would happen on the inside.”

Students enjoy Scripture 66 every year because people come together and have fun reading the Bible.

“I think students really enjoy it, it’s something different, you have normal Bible readings, studying and whatnot, but this is just reading the Bible wherever someone has left off,” Falk said. “I’ve heard stories where they get to some of the more interesting parts of the Bible, and they are like, all of a sudden, we are reading, then next minute, we are all on the floor laughing, then we keep reading.”

This year’s event got to enjoy the recent Shiloh renovations, including new flooring and carpet, freshly-painted benches and walls and new cushioning for the benches.

“The Spiritual Life Team stained the cross, it’s a little bit darker,” Falk said. “It looks like one unified piece of a cross rather than a couple pieces tossed together as a cross.”

Coffee and tea were provided for participants.
