Volleyball goes 4-0 at big guns tourney

While taking a break from conference play the Lady Pilots volleyball team competed in the Big Guns Tournament hosted by Saint Francis of Illinois, where they went 4-0. Overall, the Pilots played really well when they had to as they were able to pull off two 3-2 set victories over tough opponents. The Pilots opened play up on Friday, when they took on Cornerstone University and knocked them off 3-2 with set scores of 20-25, 22-25, 25-17, 25-20, and 15-11. From there Bethel took on Saint Ambrose University that same day and one 3-0 with scores of 25-19, 25-22, and 32-30. Callie Hartman was a key contributor on the day for the Lady Pilots as she attained 27 kills, six aces, and 26 digs. Emily Henry also had a nice day as she contributed 24 kills, while Lindsay Marks chipped in 17. Marks also reached an impressive 68 assists throughout the two games. The Pilots opened up the next day with a satisfying 3-2 win over the tournament host, Saint Francis of Illinois. The Pilots defeated the Saints by scores of 23-25, 25-19, 18-25, 22-25, and 27-25. After earning the victory with an intense fifth set finish, the Pilots took on William Penn University and won 3-1 by scores of 25-16, 25-19, 22-25, and 27-25. Emily Henry led the Lady Pilots as she achieved 24 kills and seven blocks on the day. Nevertheless, Alicia Carlton was right behind her with 23 kills, while Callie Hartman threw in 19. Hartman also earned an impressive 24 digs on the day. This was a huge boost for the team as they now improve to 18-11. Next they will return to MCC regular season play as they take on Indiana Wesleyan at home on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
