On Monday, Feb. 13, singer and songwriter, Audrey Assad, performed twice; once in Chapel that morning and again at 7:30 p.m. in the Everest-Rohrer Chapel/Fine Arts Center. The show was free for students, faculty and staff with the use of their Bethel I.D.
According to Shawn Holtgren, vice president for student development, the reason Assad came to perform is because he asked students who they would like to hear perform at Chapel and her name was one that came up. Holtgren really wanted to make this happen for the students. “We budgeted for her performances and wanted to bless the Bethel community with a free concert,” he said. During Chapel, Assad shared her testimony and even encouraged the crowd to sing along with her on a few songs. “I think students will really enjoy her music and want to return for a full concert in the evening,” said Holtgren. A couple hundred students showed up to her evening performance, during which she shared more about her life through the songs she performed. She introduced each song with a brief explanation of the story or person the song portrayed. The concert lasted for almost an hour and a half in which she shared songs from past CDs including one from her newest album "Heart," which was released Feb. 14, 2012.
