Pilot baseball season update

 -  -  58

The Bethel College baseball team has put together an impressive run as of late as they have won six of their last eight games. In each of their six wins in this stretch they have scored ten runs or more. The recent success has been much needed for the Pilots as they had a disappointing start to their season going 3-13 on their spring break trip to Florida. Bethel’s struggles continued as they lost six of their next eight games after returning to Florida, but since that stretch the team has started to turn their season around. The latest Pilot performance was a crazy game. Bethel lost the first game of a doubleheader to conferernce foe Marian University by a score of 10-5. The Pilots won a thriller second game by a score of 17-16 that ended in extra innings. The two teams combined for a total of 25 walks in the game and 28 hits with the Pilots accounting for 18 of the hits. The Pilots have been led by their hitting so far this year. Garrett Curless, Reid Spitaels, and Jon Rolon have all been big producers on offense. Curless and Rolon are both batting over .400 and Spitaels is not far behind at .396. Curless is leading the team in home runs and RBI’s with seven and 28 respectively. Spitaels currently leads the team in runs scored as he has plated 29 runs. The newfound success has moved the Pilots to the middle of the MCC standings. Their conference record is 6-4. The next Pilot home game is Tuesday, April 13 against Huntington College at 1 pm.
