As of November 12, 2010, Mark Lantz will be stepping down as Athletic Director at Bethel College. Lantz has served in this position the last six years and has decided take his skills to the business world, which is what he did before coming to Bethel. Lantz felt that the only way he would leave Bethel College is if a great opportunity came along and he believes that this is it. He will be working with a business that he feels is very solid but in need of some leadership and experience. As a result of Lantz’s departure, Assistant Athletic Director Jody Martinez, will take over the duties of Athletic Director. Martinez is the current women’s basketball coach and will continue coaching as he makes the shift. Consequently there have been a number of changes in the Athletic Department in order to assure that everything will continue running smoothly. Anna Welsh, who is the current Softball Coach, will take over as Assistant Athletic Director. Tony Natali and Chris Hess will be assigned additional responsibilities as well. Despite Lantz’s short time spent at Bethel College, he has attained many achievements including 10 national championships. He has also been a part of several top 25 NAIA rankings as well as an improvement with the G.P.A. of student –athletes. Lastly, Lantz has shown his care for athletes as he created his own mentor program called Student Athlete Leadership Training (SALT).
