Bethel’s Spiritual Life Team Hosts First Vespers of the 2021 School Year

MISHAWAKA—Vespers is one of many groups that Bethel offers for students to join for their midweek spiritual group requirement. Something that makes Vespers’ stand out is that it is all student led. Vespers is organized and run by Spiritual Life interns Jacob Falk and Anne Garrett. It is similar to Chapel, but Vespers has student-led worship services and student speakers as well. The students are the main focus in this group.

“This year specifically we are really trying to orient it towards students”, said Falk, “We ask students what they want to have and what they want to listen to”.

One thing that drives students to Vespers is the time in which it takes place. It is a night service that starts at 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday nights in the Kelly Auditorium, located in the Science Building, making it very convenient for athletes and nursing majors who aren’t able to make it to groups during the day due to time inconvenience. Another big draw for students is that it is a nice alternative for people who may not prefer small groups and wish to be in more of a worship setting. It is also a group made for all students; everyone is welcome. Vespers' focus themes for this year are love and rest.

“The goal is to help students understand God’s love for us and our love for him,” Falk said, “We want to create a safe atmosphere where students can come and rest, hear the gospel message, and share what they are feeling and what is on their mind.”
