MISHAWAKA—Bethel University hosted Tipoff Madness, an annual event that signifies the start of basketball season here on campus. The event was held on Thursday Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. in the Goodman Gymnasium. The event was a part of Go2BU which welcomes prospective students to campus to give them an on-campus experience.
“The event allows the incoming students to see what the culture around Bethel is like,” said student engagement intern, Allison Nicholas. “Our basketball teams are generally well attended games so it gives them an idea of what that will look like.”
The event included a multitude of events including various basketball activities where you could compete against the varsity squads here at Bethel. The event also included a T-shirt giveaway, as well as the annual mattress race between Shupe and Oakwood.
“The event creates hype around the basketball season,” Nicholas said. “And it gets the students involved with the basketball teams.”
The basketball teams will kick off their season with the women’s basketball team facing off against Holy Cross College on Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. at the Weikamp Athletic Center. The men will travel to Governors State to start their season on Oct. 27 at 6 p.m. As far as campus activities are concerned the next event coming up will be the fall party on Friday, Oct. 29 from 6 to 8 p.m.
