Track teams place in top five at NCCAA Indoor Championship

Both the men’s and women’s track teams continued their excellent traditions on Saturday, Feb. 18, claiming top rankings at the NCCAA Indoor Tournament held at Cedarville University. The women finished in third place, while the men placed fifth. It was an exciting day as both teams earned numerous NCCAA event champions and All-Americans. The women’s team continued to reveal their depth by placing high in a number of events. Kate Carr was named the NCCAA pole vault champion, while Cinnamin Green was the runner-up in the shot put competition. Other All-Americans included Arielle Byl in the 200m, the 4x800m relay team of Irene Kangai, Carli Mast, Lauren Dudley and Dominique Dvojacki, and the 4x400m relay team of Sam Etter, Byl, Kangai and Kaila Stevens at 4:05.98. Green also placed third in the weight throw, while Etter captured third in the 55m. The men also captured several All-American honors. Ryan Carlock and BJ VanderZwaag represented the men’s team in the weight throw with second and third place finishes respectively. Robbie Rose claimed fourth in the shot put, while Ahrin Lemacks finished fourth in the 200m. Robbie Burns also placed fifth in the 400m. Both teams will now prepare for the NAIA Indoor Championship held in Geneva, Ohio on March 1-3. The women’s team will be sending 10 athletes, while the men will be represented by five competitors.
