The Pilot baseball team captured two wins last Monday in their home opener. Bethel was able to pile on 16 runs in two games as they were able to sweep Holy Cross by scores of 10-0 and 6-3.
The Pilots trounced the Saints in the first game as they got off to a quick start with the bats and were backed by great pitching. Kyle Revella hit in three runs on the game while Branden Robbins, Garrett Curless, and Cory Stoner each drove in two. Branden Paulen looked sharp on the mound, as he achieved his first complete game shutout of the season. Paulen only gave up four hits on the afternoon and claimed three strike outs. This improved his ERA to 2.65 and his record to 2-1 on the season. In the second game, the Pilots slipped early and trailed by two before they were able to rally in the third inning to score five runs. Elliot Rowe was the beneficiary of the run support as he gave up two earned runs in five innings. Rowe also struck out five on the afternoon. Revella continued to have the hot hand in the second game of the double header as well as he drove in two more additional runs. Ethan Zartman also hit well in the second game as he drove in two runs as well. While Rowe was able to capture his first victory of the season, Shane Fye came in and pitched two innings of shutout baseball to earn the save. The Pilots will be in action Thursday as they host Concordia University. The first game of the double header is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.Print
