Bethel Bas­ket­ball Tips Off in Style

MISHAWAKA—Bethel Uni­ver­sity hosted Tipoff Mad­ness, an an­nual event that sig­ni­fies the start of bas­ket­ball sea­son here on cam­pus. The event was held on Thurs­day Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. in the Good­man Gym­na­sium. The event was a part of Go2BU which wel­comes prospec­tive stu­dents to cam­pus to give them an on-cam­pus ex­pe­ri­ence.

“The event al­lows the in­com­ing stu­dents to see what the cul­ture around Bethel is like,” said stu­dent en­gage­ment in­tern, Al­li­son Nicholas. “Our bas­ket­ball teams are gen­er­ally well at­tended games so it gives them an idea of what that will look like.”

The event in­cluded a mul­ti­tude of events in­clud­ing var­i­ous bas­ket­ball ac­tiv­i­ties where you could com­pete against the var­sity squads here at Bethel. The event also in­cluded a T-shirt give­away, as well as the an­nual mat­tress race be­tween Shupe and Oak­wood.

“The event cre­ates hype around the bas­ket­ball sea­son,” Nicholas said. “And it gets the stu­dents in­volved with the bas­ket­ball teams.”

The bas­ket­ball teams will kick off their sea­son with the wom­en’s bas­ket­ball team fac­ing off against Holy Cross Col­lege on Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. at the Weikamp Ath­letic Cen­ter. The men will travel to Gov­er­nors State to start their sea­son on Oct. 27 at 6 p.m. As far as cam­pus ac­tiv­i­ties are con­cerned the next event com­ing up will be the fall party on Fri­day, Oct. 29 from 6 to 8 p.m.
